Zero Day - Belleville, ON

Jeremy and Skipper take a break, clean the bikes, and get smoked in cards

Zero Day - Belleville, ON

Date: Sunday, July 30, 2023

This was a day spent with my sister and brother-in-law and so I won't be sharing too much about the day. It was another zero day and I was starting to feel more rested after all the breaks I'd been taking.

We woke and decided on going to a nearby French cafe with pastries. We got prepped, headed out to main street Belleville and GUESS WHAT THE CAFE WAS CLOSED! It had weird hours all around, so this one wasn't just my cursed timing.

We opted to go to the grocery store for some supplies and make our own breakfast. When we got to the checkout we realized we'd forgot the reusable grocery bags so I ran out to get them. When I came back in I discovered my sister had paid for all the groceries and I protested that I was going to pay and she should have waited for me. She immediately said something like "Oh right, just a second!" and fished around in her handbag. She eventually found a piece of folded paper and handed it to me and then continued packing up the groceries. I took the piece of paper and didn't see anything written on it, so I unfolded it and this is what was staring back at me...

I've frequently been accused of always needing the last word, but this time words failed me. I had no words. When I realized how good I'd just been had I couldn't stop laughing. My sister is so goddamn clever and funny and keeps surprising me. It's a good feeling to know you can still be surprised, and I like hanging around with my sister for this.

Breakfast was great, and in the afternoon Skipper did a complete clean of our bikes using a pressure washer and lots of TLC. We re-oiled the chains and had brand new looking machines!

My sister set to working on her small motorcycle while we cleaned the bikes. She has been working on this motorcycle for a quite some time and managed to get it running and idling while we were there. It felt like I was there for a big moment!

In the evening we had dinner and played cards. Skipper and I took on Tori and Sean in cribbage and got solidly beat twice. I once pulled this hand and it wasn't enough to best them!

I can't spell anything with these cards...

We turned in for the night as we were tired and they had work in the morning. It had been another good day in good company and relaxing with family. I never see my sister and brother-in-law enough and I'm always happy for any time I get to share with them.
